Movies perfectly synced to your every mood.

Movies perfectly synced to your every mood.

Moodi transforms the way we choose films by aligning movie recommendations with our emotional and hormonal states. Designed for individuals who menstruate, it leverages AI to analyze mood logs and menstrual cycle data, offering tailored movie suggestions that support emotional health and self-awareness.

Challenge

Challenge

Reframing the brief to discover a deeper emotional need.

Reframing the brief to discover a deeper emotional need.

This project was developed for the Product Design course of my Digital Experience Design Master’s Degree program at BAU Barcelona. The brief was to design a mobile app that recommends movies based on mood, an ambiguous prompt that required digging deeper.

Instead of building from assumptions, I looked for a real user need behind the brief: Who needs this kind of emotional recommendation? Why would mood matter more than genre?

My Role

My Role

Designing solo from insights to interfaces.

Designing solo from insights to interfaces.

I developed Moodi as a solo designer, taking the lead on every stage of the process. From early research to final prototype, I was responsible for:

  • UX research: User interviews, benchmarking, and journey mapping

  • Concept development: Defining the core value proposition

  • UI & interaction design: Wireframes, flows, high-fidelity screens, and prototyping in Figma

  • Brand identity: Logo, color system, typography, and inclusive tone of voice

  • Final deliverables: A working prototype and landing page

Approach

Approach

Curious. Compassionate. Grounded in emotion.

Curious. Compassionate. Grounded in emotion.

I followed the Double Diamond framework, starting not with a product idea but a question: What emotional need could a movie help fulfill?

As I interviewed potential users and mapped common behaviors, I discovered something powerful: people often use films to process emotions, not just kill time. Many intentionally watch a sad movie to cry and release tension, or seek a comforting one to feel safe and grounded. This emotional utility opened a new design space.

In parallel, I researched cinema therapy, a psychological practice that uses films as a tool for healing and self-reflection. This validated the insight: Moodi could be more than entertainment. It could be a mental health companion. From there, I designed, sketched, and built the product in Figma, bringing it to life screen by screen.

Key Insights & Turning Points

Key Insights & Turning Points

Movies as mood regulators and menstrual cycles as silent influencers.

Movies as mood regulators and menstrual cycles as silent influencers.

Users don’t just pick movies to match a mood, they pick them to manage it.

  • There’s an untapped opportunity in entertainment: using film as an emotional support tool.

  • For people who menstruate, mood patterns are deeply affected by their cycle and current apps don’t offer emotional or entertainment-based recommendations.

  • There was a market gap: no app combined cycle tracking, mood insights, and emotional personalization.

Combining mood logs, cycle tracking, and AI to deliver smarter film suggestions.

Combining mood logs, cycle tracking, and AI to deliver smarter film suggestions.

Moodi uses AI to recommend movies that support emotional health. Users can:

  • Log their mood daily, as often as they want

  • Sync their menstrual cycle from another app or add it manually

  • Get film suggestions tailored to their emotional needs and cycle phase

  • Review and rate recommendations so the AI gets smarter over time

  • Receive insights on mood patterns and triggers

This emotional feedback loop makes the product feel personal, useful, and affirming. Unlike Netflix or period apps, Moodi actively adapts to your body and emotional rhythm.

An inclusive digital experience designed to support emotional self-awareness and wellbeing.

An inclusive digital experience designed to support emotional self-awareness and wellbeing.

The final output included:

  • A working prototype designed in Figma

  • Full UX flows and high-fidelity screens

  • A custom brand identity: logo, colors, typography, tone

  • A dynamic landing page that explains the product and its emotional value

Feedback from peers and instructors was overwhelmingly positive. My professor praised the market insight and originality. Several classmates appreciated the depth I brought to the brief. One non-binary classmate mentioned that they were delighted to see the importance placed on inclusive design and language, a moment that validated the entire product direction.
